West Brom should try to sign hardly used West Ham United player again this summer

West Brom have been impressive as they look set to take up a spot in the Championship play-offs.

Given they are six points ahead of seventh-place Hull City and boast a far superior goal difference it would take an absolute catastrophe for the Baggies to drop out the top six.

Manager Carlos Corberan is determined to finish the regular season as strong as possible, knowing just how much momentum could play a part in their promotion bid.

Given the financial situation the club find themselves in, it is remarkable to think they could be a Premier League team next season.

Corberan deserves enormous credit for that, with his adaptability one of the reasons his West Brom side are where they are.

An example of that is his tendency to play winger Jed Wallace as a central striker, with the 30-year-old netting against Leicester City last time out.

West Brom lack striker options

One of the reasons Wallace has had to play as an auxiliary striker is that Josh Maja has spent the majority of the campaign injured.

Maja was West Brom’s only permanent signing last summer, arriving as a free agent following the expiry of his Bordeaux contract.

However, the 25-year-old has managed just one league start in a season ravaged by injury.

With fellow striker Daryl Dike also a long-term absentee with an achilles injury, Corberan has been very light on options at centre-forward.

Brandon Thomas-Asante was suspended for the 2-1 defeat against Leicester but has scored 11 Championship goals; equalling his best ever tally for a season in his professional career according to Transfermarkt.

Despite that, there are question marks over whether the former Salford City striker is good enough to take the next step should West Brom achieve promotion via the play-offs.

West Brom must pursue Divin Mubama transfer this summer

With the lack of options currently at the club, West Brom will surely be looking to bring at least one forward into the club this summer.

Regardless of promotion, the midlands club need to reinforce up front and given the club’s finances they may have to explore the free agent market once more.

With that in mind, the Baggies will surely be back in for West Ham United striker Divin Mubama, having been linked with a move in January according to The Mail.

The 19-year-old striker is out of contract in the summer and there are no indications he will sign up to new terms at West Ham given the lack of opportunities he has been given.

David Moyes’ reluctance to give Mubama chances is surprising given how highly he has spoken about the England under-20 international in the past.

Speaking on Mubama in November, Moyes said: “Divin is different from the rest. He has a mentality and an attitude that is as good as any top player.

“He’s so determined and works incredibly hard for the team, so we know what we’re going to get with Divin.”

The Scottish manager did add that the striker is far from the finished article, saying: “What we need him to do is develop in all his actions and technical ability, but he’s 19 and did a great job for us when he came on.”

Mubama may only have one senior goal but he has bags of potential and may well fancy a move to The Hawthorns provided regular first-team opportunities are on offer.

A free signing in an area that West Brom are desperately light who looks to have a big future ahead of him, this deal seems like a no brainer.
