West Brom are sat comfortably in the Championship play-offs with just two games remaining.

The Baggies are fifth in the league and six points ahead of sixth-placed Hull City.

Their goal difference of 23 to Hull’s eight make it all but impossible for them to be caught.

Carlos Corberan‘s side cannot climb any places before the season is done but they could still end up sixth given Norwich City are on the same points as the midlands club.

Given the financial situation West Brom have been negotiating all season this is some achievement, but Corberan has dismissed any suggestion they should take their foot off the gas prior to the inevitable play-offs.

Carlos Corberan determined for West Brom to finish season strong

West Brom suffered their second consecutive defeat on Saturday, losing 2-1 to Leicester City.

They were unfortunate at the King Power Stadium, with three efforts cleared off the line before Jed Wallace scored to half Leicester’s lead playing as an auxiliary striker.

West Brom’s last two games of the regular campaign are away at Sheffield Wednesday and at home to Preston and Corberan wants a strong showing from his side on both occasions.

Whilst the Spanish manager insists what place they take up in the play-offs is not of concern, he was keen to stress how important the next two fixtures are in preparation for such crucial games.

Speaking to the media, Corberan explained: “I don’t care whether we’re fifth or sixth. I want the most points we can achieve. That’s all I’m thinking about.”

He went on to add: “I want to see the best level. Hopefully our best level makes us arrive to the play-offs because I would love to live this experience with my team.”

Whilst many managers would look to deflect from the situation West Brom find themselves in, Corberan has done quite the opposite.

The 41-year-old is instead embracing the pressure and insists a shot at promotion is something to be excited by rather than feared.

When asked about the pressure, Corberan exclaimed: “It’s excellent! I love this pressure. I love to be fighting for the play-offs. I am preparing for this – I am ready to fight until the last second of the last game. We’re in a good position to fight for this, I’m proud of what we’re doing.

“The play-off is a step to promotion. There are amazing teams here, who have made a big financial investment, but we have two games to achieve the play-offs.”

As if the message wasn’t clear enough already, Corberan passionately ended with: “I don’t feel pressure, I feel fully motivated to achieve this.”

This will be music to the ears of West Brom fans who will be desperate to see their club fight for every ball in their bid to return to the Premier League.
