West Brom legend Paul Robinson has had his say on attacker Karlan Grant, who is currently on loan at Cardiff City.
West Brom made the decision to loan out Grant in the summer, sending him to Championship rivals Cardiff City.
Since, the 25-year-old has featured in all 16 of Cardiff’s opening Championship fixtures, scoring once and assisting twice for the Bluebirds who sit in 9th place of the table compared to the Baggies in 7th.
Grant, who cost West Brom £15million in 2020, scored just three goals in 31 Championship outings last season, compared to 18 in the season before.
What’s been said so far?
Carlos Corberan recently had his say on Grant’s future at West Brom.
The Spaniard played down any sudden decision on Grant’s future, with the player still having two more years on his contract at The Hawthorns, then saying:
“With Grant I’d say, before he went for the loan, that the way he came to pre-season I was thinking that this is a player who wanted to recover his level and we considered that the best way for him to rediscover his level was to move him from here.
“After, in the summer, in the right moment, we will re-evaluate the situation.”
And now, former Baggies skipper Robinson has had his say on Grant, suggesting that the Englishman might not be suited to this current style of play under Corberan.
Robinson said on the Baggies Broadcast:
“It depends on his relationship with Corberan… I think he needs to go and find himself a home now where he’s loved and where he’ll play every week. Is Karlan the type of player that Carlos [Corberan] likes with his intensity? I don’t think he can cope with it. He gets injuries quite a bit… the intensity levels that Carlos wants to play at, it just might not suit Karlan.”

Time for Grant to leave West Brom?
West Brom are certainly on the up. They’re performing well under Corberan who’s getting the most out of this side, despite numerous injuries and a lack of investment.
And Grant is playing somewhere regularly; he’s well-liked at Cardiff despite his lack of goals, and he’s perhaps not missing being at The Hawthorns for the time being.
Given West Brom’s financial predicament, selling Grant makes sense. But given how much they paid for him, the club might have to accept a fairly huge loss on the player should they sell.
Whether that would appeal to the owners remains to be seen.
Grant will also, no doubt, be one of the higher-earners at the club, so selling him would take some strain off the wage bill too.
How much the club might command for Grant could depend on how he performs this season; but it’s almost impossible to see the club claiming anything near to £15million.
Like Robinson suggests, Grant may well be suited to another style of play rather than this intense one at West Brom, but expect Corberan to want to have another look at the player before making a final decision on whether he’s in his plans or not.
