West Brom boss Carlos Corberan says it is ‘impossible’ to close the door on Karlan Grant’s future at the club.
West Brom endured a difficult summer transfer.
Signings were few and far between with an emphasis instead placed on offloading players; though in the end, only Dara O’Shea left the club on a permanent basis.
Karlan Grant was one of those who left on loan. He joined Cardiff City whilst Baggies teammate Taylor Gardner-Hickman joined Bristol City.
Grant has since been an important player for Erol Bulut’s Cardiff City, who’ve been one of the surprise packages in the Championship this season.
The Bluebirds currently sit in 9th place of the Championship table and Grant has featured in all 16 of his side’s league games this season, scoring one and assisting two more.
Goals have been hard to come by but Grant is proving to be a key addition for Cardiff. And speaking to Express & Star in a recent interview, Corberan had his say on Grant and his future at The Hawthorns.
The Spaniard said:
“It’s impossible to close doors on players who are a part of this club, they still have contracts – Grant has two years more from next summer.”
Corberan continued:
“Grant is playing every single minute, and I’m pleased. He’s not been changed. In the last games he hasn’t been a player the coach has been using to change. This is important when they’re playing every single minute – it means the coach believes in him and because he deserves this.
“With Grant I’d say, before he went for the loan, that the way he came to pre-season I was thinking that this is a player who wanted to recover his level and we considered that the best way for him to rediscover his level was to move him from here.
“After, in the summer, in the right moment, we will re-evaluate the situation.”

Does Karlan Grant have a future at West Brom?
This is a pretty difficult one for the player and the club to weigh up.
Grant has certainly struggled for goals over the past couple of years. His role might well be changing to more of a winger or a creative player, instead of an out and out scorer, so Corberan may have a task on his hands in getting Grant scoring regularly again.
And given how much money the Baggies previously spent on the 25-year-old, and given their ongoing financial troubles, it seems highly likely that the club would want to claim a decent transfer fee for Grant should they look to sell.
Grant may well be one of the player that West Brom look to offload next summer and Cardiff may well be interested in a permanent deal if he continues to perform well.
But expect Corberan and his West Brom staff to be keeping a close eye on his performances at Cardiff this season.
He remains a player with obvious quality and at 25 he’s still got potential left to fulfil, so Corberan may yet view him as a player who has a part to play in the future of West Brom.
