West Brom favourite Paul Robinson has backed club captain Jed Wallace to get through this current ‘sticky patch’ of form.
West Brom currently sit in 7th place of the Championship table.
The Baggies are performing well this season and look like strong top six contenders, with fans enjoying this current style of play under boss Carlos Corberan.
But one player who’s not having such a great season is Wallace.
The 29-year-old joined on a free transfer ahead of last season and played in all 46 of the Baggies’ Championship games last time round, scoring six and assisting eight.
And he’s since played in all 16 of West Brom’s league fixtures so far this season; scoring two and assisting three, but coming under criticism from fans.
Wallace in a ‘sticky patch’
He’s not performing as well as he was last season.
Corberan is still showing faith in him though; starting him in most every game and handing him the captain’s armband for this campaign as well.
And having his say on the Englishman, former West Brom defender and fan favourite Robinson said on the Baggies Broadcast recently:
“He’s a massive player, Jed. When Millwall lost him, he was a big loss for us because you’re losing a player that can score goals and can assist a lot with his quality out wide.
“Like all players we all go through dips… The fans will have their opinions and they might have been on at him, but this is football, this is how you deal with it, and Jed is one of those lads; he’s not very outspoken, he’s very quiet, he always analyses performances, he will know when he’s not performing, he will know when he’s on form, and that’s when you see the best of Jed is when he’s free flowing and his game comes together.
“Obviously, you know what it’s like with the captain. Captain’s extra responsibility, he’s not just on the pitch now but he’s off it. So for Jed to be the captain of West Bromwich Albion is a lot more pressure than what he’s obviously been used to.”
Robinson concluded:
“He will get through it. He’s the type of guy. He’ll get through this sticky patch.”
Corberan’s show of faith in Wallace

On his day, Wallace is one of the best attacking players in the Championship.
He showed that last season with his goals, assists, and overall performances making him an instant fan favourite at West Brom, though it’s certainly been more difficult this time round.
Wallace is still playing a lot of football and there’s extra responsibility on his shoulders, like Robinson points out.
But to have a former Baggies captain insisting that he’ll get through this tough patch will be a huge confidence booster for Wallace.
And to also have Corberan showing constant faith in him will also do Wallace a world of good, and it’s a credit to the Spaniard as well.
This international break will have been a good reflection period for Wallace who’ll no doubt have been putting in the work on the training ground, with a tough run of fixtures between now and the New Year.
Up next for West Brom is a home game vs Ipswich Town this weekend.
