Why this emerging West Brom transfer update could hint at positive takeover news

West Brom are facing a make or break January transfer window.

West Brom have their backs against the wall; not only in this month’s transfer window, but in 2024 in general.

Carlos Corberan has already been dealt a blow with Jeremy Sarmiento being recalled by Brighton and then sent on loan to West Brom’s promotion rivals Ipswich Town, with Grady Diangana heading to AFCON this month too.

Attacking options are thin in the ground then. But Daryl Dike recently retuned to the side, scoring in the FA Cup clash vs Aldershot Town over the weekend, and Brandon Thomas-Asante has missed out on the Ghana AFCON squad.

Signings remain paramount for the Baggies if they’re to challenge for promotion this season. That and completing their long-awaited takeover seems like the goal right now, though given the club’s poor financial situation, player sales remains a threat.

But in some positive news, Birmingham Live say that West Brom are ‘relaxed about the prospect of exits this month’.

West Brom and their ‘relaxed’ stance may be good news on the takeover front

In the summer, West Brom appeared desperate for player sales in a bid to keep themselves afloat.

In the end, only Dara O’Shea was sold. But reports going into this month revealed that the Baggies were facing something of a financial crisis in the early months of 2024.

It was said that West Brom’s finances are set to run dry in February time and therefore that a takeover was absolutely vital in securing the club’s long-term future.

Player sales seemed inevitable this month but with West Brom apparently relaxed about the situation, it could potentially suggest good news on the takeover front.

A takeover seemed to be moving forward last month when reports revealed that the current owner Guochuan Lai was closing in on naming his preferred bidder, though we’ve not heard much with regards to the takeover since then.

Either way, West Brom being relaxed about player sales appears to hint at good news on the financial situation, if not the takeover situation.

Corberan will be delighted, no doubt, as he already has a very thin squad which is in need of additions this month.

Up next for West Brom is a home game vs Blackburn Rovers in the Championship this weekend.
