West Brom could soon be on the verge of a takeover, following a huge update from journalist John Percy.

West Brom are running out of money.

It’s said that the club’s current finances are set to run dry early in the New Year and it appears that only a takeover can save them.

There’s been murmurs of potential buyers on social media and the odd update on an actual takeover making progress.

But last night, Telegraph journalist Percy came to the rescue and revealed that West Brom are ‘edging closer to a takeover’.

Guochuan Lai set to grant exclusivity with three bidders waiting

It was previously said by Percy that West Brom had two front-runners for a takeover.

Now there appears to be three and owner Guochuan Lai looks set to grant exclusivity to the club’s preferred bidder ‘very soon’, per Percy.

After that, it looks like the takeover bid will then be waiting on approval by the English Football League.

Percy posted on X last night:

West Brom currently sit in 5th place of the Championship table after a much-needed 2-0 win away at Rotherham United last night.

Carlos Corberan has worked wonders on the pitch this season but it seems clear that the club are still in need of investment in the playing squad if they want to become a Premier League team.

West Brom takeover finally about to happen?

It’s been a long time in the making, and there’s been so much uncertainty regarding the whole situation, but it seems like things are moving quickly and in a positive direction.

And it comes just in time with West Brom entering what remains a perilous 2024 given the club’s lack of finances, and it could yet mean that Corberan has a bit of spending money for next month’s transfer window.

Fans won’t celebrate until the takeover is officially announced. But there’s certainly reason to be optimistic now with Percy’s update providing a huge sigh of relief among the Baggies faithful.

On the pitch, West Brom got an important win last night after back-to-back defeats.

There remains a long road ahead in the race for a top six finish and West Brom have another tricky game on the agenda this weekend, with managerless Stoke City visiting The Hawthorns on Sunday afternoon.

Stoke City currently sit in 19th place of the Championship table and haven’t won any of their last seven fixtures, drawing at home to Swansea City last night.
