Ahead of the January transfer window, West Brom have been linked with a few potential signings.

As ever, reports linking players with a potential move to West Brom have picked up ahead of the transfer window, with a number of names being linked this time round.

And striker Ben Brereton Diaz is among those to have been tipped to potentially join the Baggies in the New Year.

The former Blackburn Rovers man joined Villarreal in the summer but in 11 La Liga outings, the Chilean international is yet to score, having mostly been deployed as a late substitute.

West Brom aren’t the only team credited with an interest in the 24-year-old; Leeds United are being quite heavily linked too.

Ben Jacobs plays down potential January exit for Ben Brereton Diaz

Despite his struggles in Spain, it seems like Brereton Diaz might be staying at Villarreal until next summer at least.

Transfer guru Ben Jacobs has discussed the situation, telling GIVEMESPORT:

“It’s not entirely worked out at Villarreal so far, and he hasn’t scored for them despite coming off the back of 16 goals in all competitions for Blackburn and over 20 in the previous season.

“It’s been a difficult spell for him. Mid-season, by all accounts, he wants to stick it out. But, obviously, if we get to the end of the season and it’s still not working, there might be an opportunity there.”

Do West Brom need a striker in January?

There’s certainly areas in the side that could do with an extra body or an extra bit of quality in January.

For West Brom though, the no.9 position could be one that doesn’t need bolstering so much, with the return of Daryl Dike scheduled for the New Year.

Add to that the recent return of Josh Maja, who netted his first goal for the club vs Leicester City, and it seems like Carlos Corberan has some quality up top.

Corberan may favour some additions at the back and on the sides of defence, with West Brom somewhat light on full-backs, and with another centre-back addition perhaps needed to give West Brom the necessary depth to challenge for promotion.

That being said, another striker wouldn’t go amiss, especially one with Brereton Diaz’s versatility as he could play in a number of roles for Corberan.

West Brom remain in 5th place of the Championship table despite defeat last time out, with the Baggies next heading to managerless Sunderland this weekend.

Kick off is at 12:30pm on Saturday.
