West Brom are working on a deal to sign this Celtic star on loan before the transfer shuts at 11pm on Thursday evening.

West Brom have been as quiet as most expected them to be this month.

Andi Weimann and Callum Marshall are the only signings, with the pair arriving on loan from Bristol City and West Ham respectively.

The Baggies have zero money to spend on permanent signings in the final hours of the transfer window, but journalist Lewis Cox says that the club are still working on making a couple of loan signings.

And Celtic winger Mikey Johnston is a target.

West Brom working on late loan deal for Celtic man Mike Johnston

West Brom’s interest in Ireland international Johnston was first reported last week.

The 24-year-old has been in and out of the team since Brendan Rodgers’ return last summer, featuring nine times in the Scottish Premiership this season and scoring twice, after spending the last campaign on loan with Guimaraes in Portugal.

Posting on X yesterday, Express & Star journalist Cox revealed that the Baggies are still working on a couple of late signings, with Johnston being one.

Cox posted:

Options on the flanks are depleted right now; Carlos Corberan saw Matt Phillips pick up a lengthy injury earlier in the season, before Jeremy Sarmiento’s loan spell was cut short at the start of this month’s transfer window.

Baggies in desperate need of a new winger

With options light, and with West Brom having added another no.9 to their ranks in Marshall and Weimann, who can also play as a no.10, a new winger looks like the final priority for Corberan.

He’s relying heavily on the likes of Jed Wallace right now and an injury to him, which given how much football he’s playing and the intensity of the Baggies’ attack is very probable, would really derail West Brom’s promotion push this season.

It’s very difficult for the club with no money to spend. But in Corberan they have a very well-regarded manager who’ll continue to attract players to the club for his coaching ability and his knack of improving players.

Johnston seems like a player who is pretty down on his luck right now and so hell surely fancy the opportunity to work under Corberan and test his mettle in the English leagues.

He’s experienced on the club and international stage, with eight caps for Republic of Ireland, and he’s shown his goal-scoring nouse already this season.

If West Brom can get this one over the line, it could be a very shred capture.
