One West Brom player may now struggle to get back into the starting XI.

West Brom have romped their way into definite play-off contention in recent weeks.

The Baggies sit pretty in 5th place of the table and definitely have the wind in their sails ahead of the final six games of the season.

Carlos Corberan has been one of the standout managers this season and may feel hard done to after not receiving a nomination for the EFL’s Championship Manager of the Season award.

But he could yet turn even more heads with a play-off finish at The Hawthorns, with a trip to Stoke City in the Championship coming up next.

Last time out, West Brom looked as though they might have lost a seven-game unbeaten run, when they found themselves two goals behind against Watford.

But the Baggies pulled it back and salvaged a point.

The game saw Corberan line up in his familiar 4-2-3-1 shape, but with captain Jed Wallace dropping to the bench in place of Tom Fellows.

Fellows, who signed a new West Brom contract earlier this season, has enjoyed a strong breakthrough season with four goals and three assists in 27 Championship outings.

And it is he who might have Wallace, described as an ‘important’ player by Corberan, fearing for his place in the starting XI.

Jed Wallace season so far

This season, former Millwall and Wolves man Wallace has featured 37 times in the Championship, scoring four and asisstsing five.

Corberan admitted more than once that Wallace was struggling for form earlier in the season, but he bounced back towards the end of last year.

Since the turn of the year though, Wallace hasn’t been at his best, and he was dropped to the bench for the last outing vs Watford, after starting the previous eight before that.

Tom Fellows is the future of West Brom

Fellows is certainly turning heads.

He’s exciting everyone with his pace and his trickery and the fact that he’s come through the club’s academy is a bonus.

With him on the left and Mikey Johnston currently on the right, there doesn’t seem to be a place in the XI for Wallace, who can operate across that attacking midfield three.

John Swift, when at his best, seems like the best option in that no.10 role, though he too hasn’t enjoyed a superb season and it could now be that Swift and Wallace fight for the no.10 spot.

But for the time being, and certainly going forward, it looks like Fellows will really start to cement this left wing position, and keep Wallace at bay.

West Brom vs Stoke City kicks off at 3pm on Saturday.
