West Brom picked up three points against Ipswich over the weekend, now Sam Parkin has highlighted two players who seriously impressed him.

Carlos Corberan saw his Baggies side make light work of the then joint league leaders Ipswich on Saturday at The Hawthorns. West Brom won 2-0, in what was described as a perfect performance with goals from Darnell Furlong and Grady Diangana both on the scoresheet in what was a statement win for Albion.

This win was the latest in a terrific run of form that sees West Brom the most in-form team in the league, the only team with four wins in their last five.

This will no doubt have sparked massive belief within the team over this season being a real success. There were multiple top performers during the fixture, however Sam Parkin highlighted just two for their off the ball contributions.

Matt Phillips and Jed Wallace were the players he decided to highlight and they will have been delighted to receive recognition.

Matt Phillips and Jed Wallace praised

Speaking on the What the EFL?! podcast on Monday, Sam Parkin named both Phillips and Wallace as the players who impressed him on Saturday and explained they’re showing qualities most Premier League players don’t.

“I think in the wide positions as well, they’ve got lads who wanna help out and get back into their shape.

“I think we saw in the Premier League this weekend, some wide players maybe don’t have the direction to do that but don’t have the want to do that and Phillips and Wallace in particular, they’ll get back in and keep their shape and make it difficult for the opponent.”

High praise for both, and praise which is correct given the poor effort many top division wingers do put in.

Phillips and Wallace stats v Ipswich

Wallace put in a sublime display to fire Albion up to fifth in the Championship this weekend. He made three key passes and completed three dribbled from the right wing as per SofaScore.

However, as Parkin praised, his defensive contributions were also excellent with four duels won out of eight attempted.

Phillips contributed a similar amount with three duels won, and unfortunately his running and tracking back isn’t easily quantified by stats.
