West Brom appointed Carlos Corberan as boss in October 2022, and it’s since proved to be a masterstroke by the club.
West Brom were languishing in the relegation places of the Championship table when the 40-year-old Corberan took over.
But he’s since turned the Baggies into top six candidates in the Championship, and all the while having to deal with a tough, off-field situation and a string of key injuries within the first-team.
After the opening 16 games of this current 2023/24 campaign, Corberan’s West Brom side sit in 7th and just five points behind Leeds United in 3rd.
And it was while Corberan was an assistant to Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United when he first visited The Hawthorns.
In a recent interview with Spanish outlet Panenka, Corberan has discussed his first visit to West Brom’s home ground, saying it’s a moment he will never forget.
“I still remember the first time I visited the West Bromwich ground,” said Corberan. “It was when he was an assistant with Bielsa at Leeds. The stadium had a huge impact on me. The atmosphere that was breathed was of the highest level. One of those moments that are not forgotten. For me he has always been one of the greats in England.”
The Hawthorns…
West Brom have played at their iconic The Hawthorns stadium since 1900.
Its capacity of 26,688 makes it one of the biggest stadiums in the Championship and when West Brom are playing well and in form, it’s a fearsome place for opposition teams to come.
Corberan has certainly brought back the feel good factor at West Brom and he’s made The Hawthorns a very difficult place for teams to come and play; on home form, the Baggies sit in 4th place of the Championship, having taken 17 points from eight games at The Hawthorns this season.

The Corberan effect…
Corberan has long been hailed as a master tactician.
And he’s certainly proved that during his first year in charge of West Brom, with the club now playing some of the best and most consistent football in the Championship.
The Baggies have gone toe to toe with some of the best in the league this season and they’re definite top six contenders, despite their ongoing financial struggles and injuries.
Should the club come under new ownership this season then it could really help elevate West Brom to the next level.
And with Corberan set to welcome back the likes of Daryl Dike, John Swift, and Josh Maja towards the New Year, West Brom could yet have a really fruitful second half of the season.
