West Brom claimed an impressive 2-0 win over high-flying Ipswich Town in the Championship last night.

West Brom returned from the international break in style last night, overcoming a strong and in form Ipswich Town side with ease in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

The Baggies scored either side of halftime through Darnell Furlong and Grady Diangana, moving up into 5th place of the table in the process with Ipswich now 10 points ahead in 2nd.

Carlos Corberan has now overseen four wins in the last five with West Brom, with the Spaniard continually coming under high praise for his side’s performances this season.

Jed Wallace back at it…

West Brom skipper Jed Wallace has come under scrutiny this season.

He’s had some poor performances, especially when compared to last season, but yesterday he reminded fans of his class and earned himself the Man of the Match award.

And Birmingham Live rated his performance too; they gave him a 9/10 rating, with journalist Joe Chapman adding:

“Fabulous early ball into the path of Thomas-Asante, who couldn’t apply the finishing touch. Wallace looks to have regained confidence and is currently producing performances akin to 12 months ago. Big part to play in the second goal. Should’ve had an assist for Phillips’ chance.”

So far this season, Wallace has scored twice and assisted three more, having played a part in all 17 of his side’s Championship fixtures.

Can Wallace fire West Brom to promotion?

West Brom are certainly on course to challenge for a spot in the top-six, if not a spot in the top two.

With Corberan at the helm, many believe that anything is achievable for the Baggies this season, and with players returning form injury and the likes of Daryl Dike still to come too, it could be a fruitful second half of the campaign for West Brom.

And having an in form Wallace in the side could yet be crucial for West Brom this season.

The fact that he’s been handed the captain’s armband, and that Corberan has continually shown faith in him this season despite a tough patch of form, tells us everything we need to know about the 29-year-old.

He’s repaying the faith showed in him now with some improving performances, with his display vs Ipswich Town yesterday arguably one of his best performances of the season so far.

Keeping Wallace in this vein of form is paramount for Corberan and West Brom if they want to challenge for promotion this season.
