Following his release from Portsmouth, West Bromwich Albion target Jay Mingi is reportedly training alone.
The 22-year-old midfielder made 26 appearances for Pompey last season, in what proved to be his breakthrough campaign following his three appearances during the previous campaign. But The News now claims he is training alone.
Able to play as a holding midfielder, but more frequently utilised as the box-to-box man in the middle, Mingi provided a single goal and assist for the South Hampshire outfit as they churned out an eighth-placed finish in Sky Bet League One.

West Brom could be a good move for Mingi
Injuries plagued his spell at Pompey. After missing just three of their opening 28 matches, a knee ligament issue meant that the former West Ham United academy lad played his last match for Portsmouth on New Year’s Day, a 3-1 home defeat against Charlton, despite a representative of the player claiming he had been fit since mid-February.
The Baggies do not stand alone in their rumoured pursuit of the youngster, with former club Charlton Athletic and fellow Championship side Birmingham City also said to be interested in the midfielder.
Carlos Corberan’s side are seemingly stacked in the midfield department already. Jayson Molumby, Alex Mowatt, Okay Yokuslu, John Swift and Nathaniel Chalobah make up the current quintet of talented middle men. So, if Mingi was to sign on the dotted line, then it is perhaps a safe bet to assume he would be one for the future.
The youngster had a three-year contract dating back to December that remained on the table from Portsmouth last week. But Pompey boss John Mousinho admitted that he had not heard from Mingi regarding his future intentions ahead of his side flying out to Malaga for the start of their pre-season schedule.
It is understood that the player’s representatives are exploring possible moves throughout all three leagues within the EFL, so it remains to be seen whether or not the free agent will take the step up this summer.
If West Bromwich Albion snap up Jay Mingi , then Portsmouth would be due training compensation due to his age.
