West Brom are in the race to sign Barnsley and Hungary wing-back Callum Styles, reports TEAMtalk.

Styles, 27, currently plays for Barnsley in League One, having been with the South Yorshire club since the 2018/19 season.

He’s made more than 100 league appearances for the club since and he’s even made his name with the Hungarian national side, with whom he has 16 caps with.

Styles spent time on loan with Millwall in the Championship last season but saw his spell cut short by injury.

He then returned to Barnsley ahead of this season and it looked like he’d be leaving the club on a permanent basis, but Styles remains at Oakwell where he’s scored three and assisted one in 12 League One outings this season.

And now, TEAMtalk are reporting that West Brom are among the clubs interested in a January swoop for Styles.

They write that Burnley and Sheffield United are both keen as well as the Baggies, with European sides Anderlecht, Braga, and Union Berlin all interested as well.

Styles is currently under contract at Barnsley until 2025.

Styles to West Brom…

West Brom are doing very well in the league right now. They could be heading to the Premier League this season whereas Burnley and Sheffield United could be heading back to the Championship, so The Hawthorns could yet be an attractive destination for Styles.

But the issue may be the Baggies’ resources. They had a tough summer window and a tough January could be in store, with the club looking like they still might have to sell players in the upcoming window. But there’s hope yet. There’s murmurings of a takeover on social media and if that can go through sooner rather than later then it could give Carlos Corberan some resources for January.

And Styles is someone who could really bolster this Baggies side. He’s a naturally left-sided wing-back who’s also capable of playing on the right and also capable of playing in a more attacking position too.

The wing-back departments are often thin ion the ground at West Brom with Corberan relying on the likes of Matt Phillips quite heavily this season.

But bringing in Styles would give Corberan some depth in a key position, whilst also adding quality to the ranks too.
