West Brom’s have now been criticised over their recent decision to bring in this 32-year-old.
West Brom recently announced their first signing of the January transfer window, signing Austrian hitman Andi Weimann on loan from Championship rivals Bristol City.
The 32-year-old striker joins on loan until the end of the season and it’s a move that has split opinion among Baggies fans, with some saying he’s simply not good enough for a promotion push, and others thinking it might well be a Carlos Corberan masterstroke.
But someone who thinks it’s not that good of a signing is Justin Peach of The Second Tier podcast.
Justin Peach says Andi Weimann’s ‘best years are behind him’
Speaking in a recent episode of The Second Tier podcast, Peach had this to say on Weimann’s recent arrival at West Brom:
“His best years are behind him, aren’t they?” he said. “But what you will get with him is a player who runs a lot, and he can chip in with goals. I’m not going to wax lyrical over it. He’s never been technically-gifted and he does carry injuries… But he brings leadership. He brings experience. He brings energy, and he’s going to give Corberan a lot of energy in the final third.”
Weimann needs to be given a chance, and he will at West Brom
Many have written Weimann of before he’s even played a game for West Brom.
And given the fact that he played 20 times for Bristol City in the first half of this season, scoring just one and playing mostly as a substitute, it’s maybe easy to see why people are writing him off.
But just a couple of years ago, Weimann netted 22 goals in a single season in the Championship for Bristol City, adding 10 assists to that tally too.
If nothing else, he’s certainly a proven striker, and like Peach says, he’s someone that’ll add bags of energy, pedigree, and depth to the West Brom frontline, with Weimann also able to operate as a no.10.

That kind of versatility is vital for Corberan who likes to don a fluid West Brom attack, and Corberan also has a habit of getting the best out of players who’ve maybe not had an easy spell.
Kyle Bartley and Cedric Kipre are two key examples of that and Weimann may well be the next to be fortunate enough to work and eventually shine under the beloved Baggies boss.
If Weimann can hit the ground running against Norwich City this weekend, it could mark the birth of a new cult hero at The Hawthorns.
