West Brom have been linked with a potential loan swoop for Hertha BSC’s young forward Derry Scherhant.
Scherhant, 21, has been linked with the likes of West Brom and Ipswich Town this month.
Football Insider claimed that the Championship hopefuls are both mulling over a loan swoop for the Berlin-born attacker, who was wanted by Blackburn Rovers last summer.
The Baggies are yet to make their first signing of the January transfer window but have seen Jeremy Sarmiento recalled by Brighton and sent to Ipswich.
Derry Scherhant, the story so far
Scherhant spent time in the youth academies of several lower league sides in and around his hometown of Berlin before signing with Hertha in 2020.
He signed his first professional deal with the club in 2022 after netting a number of goals for Hertha Berlin II in the Regionalliga Northeast (29 goals in 51 total appearances).
Scherhant also made his Bundesliga debut in the 2022/23 season and featured 10 times as his side were relegated, scoring once.
This season in 2. Bundesliga, Scherhant has featured 13 times in the league with one goal to his name, with Hertha currently sitting in 7th.

The teams interested in Derry Scherhant

Scherhant has been in transfer headlines since last summer.
Blackburn Rovers were the team being the most closely linked and it was widely reported that they had multiple loan bids for the youngster knocked back.
Then last month, Ipswich’s interest was first reported, with Watford also mentioned as a possible destination; Blackburn were also said to have retained an intereste.
Now though, West Brom have been added to the list of suitors.
Last summer, The Telegraph even reported that Newcastle United had an interest in Scherhant.
Derry Scherhant to West Brom analysis
West Brom certainly need attackers, and strikers would arguably be the priority.
As well as having names like Matt Phillips and Grady Diangana currently available, Carlos Corberan is also without Josh Maja up top, with Daryl Dike slowly being reintroduced after his injury lay-off.
So Scherhant would be a useful option and West Brom have had success in the loan market in recent seasons, and also given their strong league position, Hertha might view West Brom as a good potential destination for the youngster.
Gametime would be more readily-available too given the lack of first-team depth at The Hawthorns.
