West Brom have further strengthened their first-team squad this week.

On Monday, the Baggies announced the signing of Yann M’Vila on a deal until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old has been a free agent, meaning he was still eligible to make the move to The Hawthorns, despite the transfer window closing at the start of this month.

Having joined West Brom, the Frenchman has now reunited with Baggies boss Carlos Corberan. The duo previously worked together in Greece during their time at Olympiacos.

Now it seems that having completed his move to The Hawthorns, M’Vila is relishing the prospect of working with the Baggies boss once again.

Yann M’Vila a big Carlos Corberan fan

Corberan’s time in charge of Olympiacos was, admittedly, a brief one. The Spaniard was appointed by the Greek giants at the start of August 2022.

However, he was sacked just a month-and-a-half later, having won just two of his 11 games in charge of the club, across all competitions.

Even so, it seems he still made a considerable impression on M’Vila during his time with the club.

Speaking after completing his move to West Brom, the midfielder has revealed how pleased he was to be working with the Spaniard again.

He also went on to suggest that Corberan has the potential to become one of the best coaches in the world.

While many around West Brom may not disagree with that, it is something that could potentially concern them.

Carlos Corberan claims a worry for West Brom

There can be no denying that Corberan has done an excellent job since taking over at The Hawthorns.

After his disappointing spell with Olympiacos, he walked into a Baggies side battling to avoid relegation to the Championship.

Despite an incredibly limited budget amid the ownership issues the club only just look to be emerging from, he has turned them into a team who are now challenging for a place in the play-offs.

With that of course, comes the opportunity to win promotion to the Premier League.

To turn things around both for West Brom and himself so quickly, has not surprisingly done wonders for Corberan’s reputation.

That is something that clubs elsewhere no doubt ought to be aware of, and these comments from M’Vila will surely add to that too.

The midfielder has worked with numerous managers throughout the course of his career. Yet he still identifies Corberan as potentially one of the best in the world.

As a result, it is likely that others may see him in a similar light. Should that be the case, then there is a good chance one a club further up the pyramid will be tempted to give him the chance to realise his potential in the near future.

If such a situation does materialise, it may be difficult for West Brom to retain the services of Corberan.

The Spaniard will no doubt want to test himself at a higher level, and may feel that a move elsewhere could give him a better chance of doing so.

Given how well he has done in such challenging circumstances at West Brom, it would of course, be a big blow for the club to lose him as well.

With that in mind, as exciting as these comments may be from M’Vila, they may also carry a sad reminder about Corberan’s situation, for those of a Baggies persuasion.
