West Brom have plenty of players out on loan elsewhere at this moment in time.
A number of those are younger individuals, looking to boost their first-team experience with lower league clubs.
However, one Baggies loanee who does not fall into that particular category, is Karlan Grant.
The West Brom attacker is currently on loan with another Championship side, in the form of Cardiff City.
Since moving to the Welsh capital, Grant has scored four goals and provided three assists in 31 appearances in all competitions for the Bluebirds.
According to recent reports from Birmingham Live, there have been some calls for that deal to be made permanent. That is apparently something West Brom could be open to in the right circumstances.
That however, could be a risky stance for the Baggies to take. So with that in mind, we’ve taken a look at three reasons why West Brom may want to keep Grant, despite this reported stance.
Karlan Grant can make an impact at The Hawthorns
Admittedly, things haven’t always worked out for Grant during his time with West Brom. Indeed, that is likely part of the reason why he is now out on loan elsewhere.
However, he has previously been a useful asset for the Baggies. That was perhaps most notable in the 2021/22 campaign, when he scored 18 goals in 44 Championship appearances for the club.
Such a return is undeniably an impressive one, and if he could discover that form again, it could still see him make some important contributions for Carlos Corberan‘s side.
West Brom may want to maximise their investment return

Grant was certainly not a cheap signing for West Brom. It was reported when he joined in the summer of 2020, that they paid Huddersfield Town £15million for his services.
In his current situation though, as a loaned out player who hasn’t been the most prolific recently, they will not be getting anywhere near that as things stand.
But if they are able to bring him back, and help him rediscover some of his old form, it could boost his valuation. While it is highly unlikely that would be enough to see them make a profit on him, it could help West Brom reduce their losses to some extent.
Mikey Johnston cover
Right now, Mikey Johnston is enjoying an excellent spell on loan at The Hawthorns from Celtic. The 24-year-old has produced some excellent performances and scored some stunning goals for the Baggies.
That though, could make it hard for them to bring him back in the summer, given he may start to attract attention from elsewhere. Should that be the case, West Brom could find themselves short on depth on the left wing.
Grant though, regularly fills, and has done for the Baggies before. Bringing him back could therefore go some way to solving any potential lack of depth West Brom face in that area.
