West Brom currently have four players out on loan; Karlan Grant, Taylor Gardner-Hickman, Zac Ashworth, and Ethan Ingram.
West Brom didn’t have the busiest summer transfer window.
They signed three new players with only Josh Maja being the permanent arrival, whilst the Baggies released a number of players and loaned out a few more.
Here we have a look at how the club’s loaned out players are faring this season…
Karlan Grant
Grant was loaned to Championship rivals Cardiff City in the summer.
The Bluebirds are enjoying a good season so far with the club in 9th place of the Championship table compared to West Brom in 7th, and Grant has played in every game so far.
He’s become an important player, but goals have been hard to come by with just one to his name.
And what the future might hold for Grant remains to be seen; he still has two more years left on his contract at The Hawthorns and Carlos Corberan gave an insight into Grant’s situation, saying:
“Grant is playing every single minute, and I’m pleased. He’s not been changed. In the last games he hasn’t been a player the coach has been using to change. This is important when they’re playing every single minute – it means the coach believes in him and because he deserves this.
“With Grant I’d say, before he went for the loan, that the way he came to pre-season I was thinking that this is a player who wanted to recover his level and we considered that the best way for him to rediscover his level was to move him from here.
“After, in the summer, in the right moment, we will re-evaluate the situation.”
Taylor Gardner-Hickman

Gardner-Hickman was a somewhat surprise exit in the summer. His temporary move from West Brom to Ashton Gate came about quite quickly and he’s since made 12 Championship appearances for the Robins, who’ve recently appointed Liam Manning as manager.
The 21-year-old has been in and out of the side so far this season. He’s had his share of starts and he’s made a few substitute appearances, though on the whole, he’s proving to be a useful player for the Robins who currently sit in 11th.
How the change in manager will impact Gardner-Hickman’s loan spell remains to be seen; Manning is arguably more aligned to the likes of Corberan and so Manning’s arrival could benefit Gardner-Hickman ahead of his return to The Hawthorns next summer.
Zac Ashworth
West Brom academy defender Ashworth joined League One hopefuls Bolton Wanderers on loan in the summer, after spending time with Burton Albion last season.
But the Welshman has made just four league outings for the Trotters and he hasn’t been involved in a match day squad since the start of last month.
He had a minor injury earlier in the season but made his return to the side, though there’s been no reports of a subsequent injury and so it seems like Ashworth is simply out of favour.
Whether or not the Baggies look to make a change to his situation in January remains to be seen.
Ethan Ingram
Many Baggies fans have wanted to see the highly-rated Ingram make his league debut for West Brom last season. But he’s now on loan with Salford City and he’s played 11 times in League Two this season, scoring one and assisting one.
He too has been in and out of the side this season, and in and out of the starting XI, though on the whole it seems like Ingram is playing an important role for Salford who’ve had a tough season so far.
They currently sit in 17th place of the table but just six points outside the play-off places.
Like Ashworth, what West brom make of Ingram’s time at Salford remains to be seen; he’s not playing in an overly-successful team and a change could be best.
