West Brom picked up a very important win over Hull City in the Championship yesterday.

West Brom welcomed Hull City to The Hawthorns yesterday, for what promised to be a very tough game against good opposition.

The Tigers have been in or around the top six so far this season, but so too have West Brom who’ve really found form in recent weeks despite numerous injuries in the first-team.

And once again, Carlos Corberan guided his side to victory with West Brom winning 3-1 to earn a third-straight win in the league, taking them up into 5th place of the table.

Goals came from Jed Wallace, Matt Phillips, and Semi Ajayi, with the latter coming of the bench for Kyle Bartley and later receiving praise from his boss.

Speaking to the club after the game, Corberan said of the 29-year-old Ajayi:

“He’s very important, he’s very necessary to increase the competitiveness of the team and the solution today for example with Bartley. We move Bartley because there is always his injury and to have someone like Semi who hasn’t been playing a lot is always positive news.”

In what is now his fifth season with the Baggies, Ajayi has scored twice in nine Championship outings, though he’s not started a game since September.

Ajayi shows West Brom’s strength in depth…

Ajayi is a player who would arguably be a starting player for most Championship sides. But the fact that he’s often on the bench for West Brom shows the quality they have in defence.

Kyle Bartley has put together a string of starts and he’s been impressive. Ajayi though came off the bench yesterday and gave a thorough account of himself, potentially giving Corberan something to think about ahead of the next game.

He’s a very powerful player who has often showcased his attacking treat too, with his goal yesterday sealing what was an impressive win for the Baggies.

Up next for Corberan’s side is a trip to Southampton next weekend.
