West Brom fans are facing the increasingly likely scenario of watching their club compete in League One next season, according to experts at Opta.
The Baggies currently sit one point outside of the drop zone, just one point above Leicester City, thanks to a six-point deduction.
After West Brom’s defeat to Oxford last weekend, a team who were considered all but relegated are now right back in the fight and Albion’s abysmal form shows no signs of slowing down after 11 games without a win that included Eric Ramsay’s sacking.
West Brom ranked lowest chance of avoiding relegation by Opta
It’s incredibly tight at the bottom of the Championship table. Assuming Sheffield Wednesday and Oxford United are the bottom two come the end of the season, it seems a three-way battle between Leicester, West Brom and Blackburn Rovers.

Opta’s supercomputer has predicted that West Brom have a staggering 54.2% chance of relegation this season. The prediction, which sees West Brom finishing on 48 points, places them inside the bottom three, one point behind Leicester on the final day.
Leicester have a 35.6% chance of being relegated, while Blackburn chances are currently much slimmer at 23.6% with the computer predicted Rovers will finish the season three points clear of the relegation zone.
It makes for grim reading for West Brom fans but they won’t be surprised. West Brom have now gone two months without winning a Championship league game. That’s 11 games since last tasting victory against QPR on 29th December 2025. A run that has consisted of seven defeats and four draws.
In that time, they have conceded 20 goals and scored just seven. West Brom strikers have not scored a single league goal between them in 2026. Aune Heggebo last scored in December, Josh Maja last scored in October and Daryl Dike last scored in May.
With the bottom of the table being so close, goal difference may well come into it and that can be considered one less point for the Baggies with a curren goal difference of -18. Only Sheffield Wednesday, the club rooted to the bottom of the table has a worse record.
Relegation will have huge financial implications for West Brom but all hope is not lost yet.
James Morrison has been confirmed as head coach for the rest of the season with Matt Gill joining his coaching staff.

Morrison has not given up, he said: “This is about us showing the fight and desire expected of a West Bromwich Albion team. Our fans will respond to that as they always do, with wholehearted, passionate support, that raises the roof of wherever we’re playing.
“I’m completely committed to getting us over the line, and I know from experience that when this club comes together in moments of adversity, it can achieve anything.”
The relegation dogfight continues on Saturday and things don’t get any easier, West Brom travel to Sheffield United looking for their first win on the road since October.
