West Brom loan favourite Mikey Johnston has been named the Championship Player of the Month for March.

After scoring four goals for West Brom in March, inspiring wins against Coventry City, and Huddersfield Town, Johnston has been named the Championship Player of the Month.

Few expected him to have such an impact at The Hawthorns.

Maybe even Johnston himself will be surprised at how well he’s settled in and how prolific he’s been for Carlos Corberan‘s side.

Johnston already has seven goals in 14 league appearances for the Baggies who are beginning to consolidate their 5th place position in the Championship table.

Johnston has won over the hearts of fans and pundits alike.

Fans are running out of superlatives to describe the Celtic loan man, who may yet break the hearts of supporters in the summer if he doesn’t return.

For now though, he’s in form and firing West Brom to a place in the top six, which was very much unexpected going into this season.

And giving his verdict on Johnston scooping the Player of the Month award, journalist Lewis Cox gave this reaction on X:

Will West Brom sign Mikey Johnston from Celtic

It’s arguably the question on every West Brom fan’s mind right now; that and can the club get over the play-off line and then over the promotion line.

Johnston couldn’t have done much more to give the club something to think about in the summer.

Whilst the season is far from over yet, his goals record and overall impact on the side has been a joy to watch.

He brings so much energy and in a position that is so crucial in the Corberan set up at West Brom.

And Johnston will surely be keen to keep this current vein of form going, so joining West Brom on a permanent deal and playing under Corberan some more would be very enticing to the Celtic man.

But it all depends on the Scottish giants.

Seeing Johnston perform so well, he might be given another chance to impress at his parent club, or they might open an auction for his signature in the summer; Celtic have already been tipped to give Johnston a chance to regain his place in the first-team this summer.

West Brom are still paying off the MSD loans from the Guochuan Lai era and so how much money the club can spend under Shilen Patel this summer remains to be seen.

But West Brom could do a lot worse than push the boat out for Johnston, and promotion to the Premier League would surely see the club spend well on the Irish international.
