West Brom captain Jed Wallace has outlined the target set by players as the Baggies face real danger of dropping to the third tier for just the third time in the club’s history.

Albion face a season-defining five days as they host Charlton Athletic at The Hawthorns before travelling to relegation rivals Oxford United on Saturday.

In isolation, losing to league leaders Coventry City was perhaps expected, but the West Brom squad had targeted six points from nine over this week and now face increased pressure in a “must-win” against Charlton.

Speaking to BBC WM after the defeat to Coventry, Wallace struggled to hide his frustration with the situation Albion find themselves in.

He said: “We’ve lost to the league leaders and coming into this week, six points was the target for us, so we have two games now that are just huge, no getting away from it.

“[Charlton] is a must-win. It’s West Brom, we shouldn’t be where we are, it’s a privilege to play for this club and we need to start winning games.”

Defeat to Coventry means Albion have secured just three points from the last nine games, and have now gone four games without recording a goal. Kyle Bartley called on West Brom fans to get behind their team, but it appears the club captain completely understands their frustration.

Eric Ramsay’s West Brom future ‘nothing to do with us’

Charlton has been billed as a must-win for Eric Ramsay who remains winless after his first eight league games in charge. The board are reportedly considering an immediate change with Will Still and Ralph Hasenhuttl among the names mentioned as potential replacements to lead the survival charge.

“I don’t know, that’s not my job, my job every time I pull a West Brom top on I try to try my absolute best. Everytimer I’ve played a game of football, I’ve always done that, tried my best, tried to get the best out of my teammates,” said Wallace when asked if Charlton is a must-win for his manager.

“That [Ramsay’s future] is nothing to do with us, we need to put on a performance for the manager, for the fans and for ourselves.”

He added: “There are 13 games left, but regardless of what happens, people need to have a look at themselves in the short term and the long term, and we need to do better because we’re letting the club down at the moment.”
