West Brom were handed some welcome news around the club’s off-field situation last week.

Last Thursday, it was announced that Florida-based businessman Shilen Patel had agreed a deal to takeover the Baggies.

Patel is set to buy a controlling stake in the club’s parent company, West Bromwich Albion Group Limited, from previous owner Guochuan Lai.

It was stated at the time that the deal had been approved by the EFL, with an expectation to be completed this week.

So far though, there has been no confirmation that the takeover of West Brom has been officially secured.

Now however, it seems those at The Hawthorns will not have to wait too much longer for that to be the case.

Shilen Patel takeover still on course

Given how long West Brom fans have been waiting to see this takeover completed, there may have been some concerns that it had not been announced within the anticipated period.

However, it seems everything is indeed still going to plan. According to an update from The Birmingham Mail’s Joe Chapman, the takeover is still on track to go ahead.

But due to the different timezones that those involved in the deal are working in, it is taking longer than originally thought.

As a result, it is now expected that Patel will instead be confirmed as the new West Brom owner next week.

On the pitch, Carlos Corberan‘s side are next in action on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to the MKM Stadium to face Hull City.

Takeover update will be welcome for West Brom

This latest update from Chapman about the takeover will surely be a relief for those of a West Brom persuasion.

There has been plenty of uncertainty about the future of the club in recent times, under the ownership of Lai.

As a result, the takeover is something that should put the Baggies in a much more secure position moving forward.

West Brom supporters will therefore be desperate to see this completed for the good of their club.

Any last minute delays will consequently cause a few nerves if they are not explained. However, with this update, those connected with the club now they can still look forward to confirmation of the takeover in the not too distant future.

With that in mind, it could plenty of minds at ease when it comes to the current state of the club.

Indeed, it could also provide West Brom with a welcome morale boost ahead of such a big game in the battle for a play-off place on Saturday afternoon.
