Corberan doesn’t expect ‘perfect’ transfer outcome for West Brom

Carlos Corberan has offered an insight into the difficult transfer situation currently facing West Bromwich Albion.

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan accepts that some key players are going to leave the Hawthorns this summer. Goalkeeper Alex Palmer may well be among them, with a £3 million move to newly-promoted Luton Town thought to be on the cards, according to Birmingham Live.

Palmer would be welcomed back to Kenilworth Road with open arms, having had a loan spell with Luton earlier in his career. However, his departure would leave the Baggies without their first choice ‘keeper. This would certainly be a difficult situation for Corberan to contend with. 21-year-old shot-stopper Josh Griffiths will likely step up in Palmer’s absence.

It has already been a tricky summer for Albion. The arrival of Jeremy Sarmiento on loan from Brighton aside, there has been little for fans to get too excited about. Corberan is aware of the frustration, but is somewhat powerless to resolve the club’s transfer activity himself.

As quoted by Birmingham Live, the coach said, “the timings aren’t going to be perfect and the situation is that some players that we like are going to leave…You want to create the most competitive squad, and as part of this process some changes are going to be made.…I’m out of the process of negotiations so I don’t know…we know that the market, when you don’t control it the way you want… you have two positions in the market, you can be proactive or reactive. This is a situation that I didn’t expect but it happens in football.”

West Brom need to get their summer together

If West Brom are going to mount anything like a serious play-off or even promotion-push this season, then their summer needs to catch fire quickly. The club can’t be allowed to stagnate further.

Corberan’s latest statements will hardly fill fans with optimism, though. Outgoings needs to be resolved and settled quickly, and incoming replacement players must be sourced as soon as possible.

If West Brom don’t take charge of this summer transfer window and exert some greater measure of control, then their season could easily end in disaster.
