West Brom’s defence is probably the deepest position the club has and Carlos Corberan has highlighted its significance.
West Brom return to action this weekend after the final international break of 2023 with high-flying Ipswich Town visiting The Hawthorns on Saturday.
It will be a tough outing for the Baggies who will be keen on picking up three points as it could mean a return to the playoff positions.
However, before the game, Carlos Corberan will have some huge decisions to make, none more so than what he should do with his defence.
West Brom has a quality defensive department so choosing who to leave out on a weekly basis must be extremely difficult for Corberan.
Before this weekend’s game, Corberan has been giving his verdict on the conundrum he has.

Corberan on ‘positive’ big decision
According to Express and Star, Corberan is facing a good predicament to have.
“This is very important,” Corberan said. “You can only achieve consistency on the pitch if all of your squad is working in the same direction.
“The fact that you play with one, or another one, is not going to have a massive impact in the things you can do in attack and in defence.”
The fact Corberan has his side at the point where they can rotate and still play the same way is a real compliment to the manager.
Corberan on having a wide range of defenders
He then continued that he is delighted to have such a wide range of defenders at his disposal: “It’s true that every player is different,
“Here we have every player and they all have something that only they have.
“Something you see in one player you’re not going to see in another. What I see in Bartley are special in him and you don’t see in Ajayi. What you can see in Semi, you are not going to see in Kyle.
“It’s very positive to have this, players who can give you options during the game, or in different games, without losing the identity of the team. That’s the most important thing for me.”
Clearly having such a strong defensive set has benefitted West Brom this season as they currently stand with the joint most clean sheets in the Championship.
This is also a testament to Alex Palmer who has been immense in goal for Albion.
