James Morrison revealed he had to address his side at Sheffield United. to get a reaction as West Brom salvaged a point to drag themselves out of the relegation zone.

Albion started the day in the bottom three after Oxford United beat Preston on Friday night to capitalise on beating the Baggies last week.

This West Brom side, who were looking for their first league win on the road since October, now had to do their part and turn the tide of this Championship relegation dogfight.

Morrison made five changes to the side who were beaten at the Kassam Stadium last week, opting for two strikers with first-team regular Alex Mowatt dropped.

Despite an improved performance, it almost looked like a George Campbell own goal would be the difference before the centre-back salvaged a point with a thunderous finish in the 83rd minute.

Albion are now winless in 12 games and in real danger of relegation but there were positive signs that there is still hope West Brom can save themselves albeit not the most entertaining game to watch.

Reacting to the point, Morrison said: “We were a bit passive first half, I wasn’t really happy with that. We addressed it at half time, then we got a reaction.

“I didn’t feel that they were on top or causing us a bit of trouble around the goalmouth, I don’t think Max [O’Leary] really had much to do until they scored and we opened up trying to get back in the game.

“I have been talking about staying in the game, giving ourselves chances. We were away from home, we had to be solid, we had to make it a little bit ugly, we had to slow it down at times and wait for that moment when they come.”

He added:”We were a bit desperate in the final third, we were trying to score every time but it’s not the case we can take that extra pass.

“On the other hand, George [Campbell] intercepts it and buries it.”
