West Brom suffered a 2-0 loss at Norwich City in the Championship this afternoon, extending the Baggies’ poor run of form on the road.
West Brom headed to Carrow Road for what promised to be a challenging away day.
And that it was; the Canaries scored either side of half-time and looked to be in cruise control for much of the 90 minutes.
The defeat leaves West Brom in 5th place of the table whilst Norwich move up into 8th; Carlos Corberan‘s side now have a six-point gap to Leeds United in 4th, who also have a game in hand, whilst Southampton in 2nd are 13 points ahead of the Baggies.
And today’s defeat also extends West Brom’s poor run of form on the road.
Lewis Cox highlights ‘problematic’ West Brom away form
West Brom have now lost four of their last five away games in the Championship; against Norwich City today, Swansea City, Middlesbrough, and Sunderland.
In the away form table this season, West Brom are in a staggering 16th place having taken just 15 points from 14 total games on the road in the Championship.
At home, West Brom have the 5th best record, with 30 points taken from 14 games at The Hawthorns so far this season.
Home fortress, but it won’t be enough for the Baggies
Whilst West Brom are typically solid at home, they’ve been very poor on the road, especially of late.
Their home form might be enough to keep them in contention for the top six but if the Baggies want to finish inside the top six, and really compete, they need to improve on the road.
But it’s certainly not an easy fix.
Corberan and West Brom are obviously very limited in what they can do in the transfer market, but it definitely seems to be a case of depth; a lack of.

The Baggies still have Grady Diangana to come back and Daryl Dike to get up to full speed, and with a few new faces, Corberan would be able to rotate his players a bit more and keep them fresh for these tough away outings.
But that may be dependent on the takeover and whilst it’s making progress, it remains to be seen whether or not the club are able to do much transfer business before February 1st.
Up next for the Baggies is a home game against neighbours Birmingham City next weekend; Blues have won their last two games in all competitions under former Baggies manager Tony Mowbray.
